In late March 1983, musicologists Annie Petraskic and Evelyn Mounarde were given permission to document the ritual music of the secretive and isolated coven of women who refer to themselves as ***************. The daily, seasonal, and sacred sounds of greetings, farewells, pacts, bodies, lust, dreams, protection spells, water, blossoms, funeral dirges, hexes, blessings, harvests, and transcendental states included in these recordings were captured over a 1 year period.

Petraskic and Mounarde, both presumed missing and likely dead, were not heard from again for nearly 4 years. On October 24th 1986 a package containing a cassette, a few pages of handwritten notes, and a photograph arrived at the office of the pairs former mentor and patron ************* - who remains the owner and archivist for Petraskic and Mounarde's recordings.

The surviving field notes offer no concrete descriptions of instruments or of the ritual practices of the coven; only a chronological labeling of the recordings, and a brief message from Petraskic and Mounarde to ********** explaining their disappearance:

" We were wrapped in her vines as they brushed our tears aside and sang to us until we were as soft as petals
all that remains are our bones inscribed with cobalt letters - together we'll wilt here. "
